On Thursday 26th September Wandsworth Oasis, in collaboration with Positively Putney, held its first in a series of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ events; ‘Sustainability on a shoestring’. It was a fascinating and fun evening where people from local businesses and neighbourhoods came to hear from four engaging speakers, all passionate about becoming more sustainable in their work and lives.
At the event, LocoSoco – a social enterprise set up to reward sustainability by generating revenue for local businesses and causes whilst helping their community to go green – launched a new refill station service, the first of its kind in Putney.
There are two types of refill in their pop-up refill station in the Putney Wandsworth Oasis. The first is from bulk, which is essentially refilling laundry liquids and other cleaning products like for like, where you buy a bottle or bring an old one in, fill it up and pay by the ml.
The second is the concentrated cleaning products that only require one 30ml squirt into a bottle and refill the rest with water. The small eco-refill stations carry 500 refills and save 500 bottles, whilst providing affordable access to professional quality eco-cleaning sprays by the amazing Delphis Eco. Normally a bottle retails at around £4 because recycled bottles are more expensive, and the customer pays for transport of 0.7kg. With their refills you just pay for the concentrated active ingredient.
James Perry, Founder & CEO of LocoSoco Said: “The refill station is a way for us to sum up our business and goals at LocoSoco and start engaging with communities on sustainability through retail partners, but also schools, businesses and places of worship. At LocoSoco we create businesses that save money for consumers / create value for them, make money for a business or cause, all whilst solving a problem of our time – Reducing plastic being the main one for our Eco-Refill Stations – they also return great margins for the hosts, like Wandsworth Oasis so it makes it a great way to support a charity you care about whilst greatly reducing plastic waste in Putney.”
Refills for professional cleaning products are just £1 where as laundry liquids, toilet cleaners, floor cleaners and glass and stainless steel cleaners range from £2.50 to £5.
