The University Boat Race

Putney, is the home of rowing. The University Boat Race is an annual race between Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club. The race covers a 4.2 mile stretch of the River Thames, beginning in Putney and finishing in Mortlake.

The first male race was in 1829 and the event has been held annually since 1856. In 2015, the ladies joined the men in racing on the Tideway on the same day.

It is a great atmosphere in Putney in all the bars and restaurants.
