Local Boy to Climb Mount Meru for Charity

My name is Graham. I am 10 years old. I go to a great school in Putney called Hurlingham.

I am climbing Mount Meru in Tanzania to raise money for Books2Africa, to help make books available to children who don’t have access to books like I do.

Lots of children who go to school in Africa don’t have a lot of money and they can’t get books like I can. Can you imagine a classroom that has no desks, no chairs, no computers and no books? I have found out that lots and lots of school kids who go to school in Africa won’t be able to read or write properly when they finish school because they haven’t got equipment to get educated properly. I have also found out that in the UK we throw millions of books away every day. One problem is the other’s solution.

I am doing the climb with my mum and my grandpa in my summer holidays. It will take us more than 3 days to get to the summit and another day to climb down.

Mount Meru is the 2nd highest mountain in Tanzania and the 4th highest mountain in Africa, at 4,566m high. It is located in Arusha National Park. We should be able to see Mount Kilimanjaro at the summit if we are lucky with the weather. Lots of people have said the climb will be very hard, but I have decided to go for it!

It would be great if you could sponsor me to help me reach my goal.
