Putney Magic Chair

During March and April you may have seen a moving chair travelling through the streets of Putney with a mysterious telephone. Many of those who walked past ended up taking a seat and spoke about their thoughts on Putney and why they had come to the area. We heard that 34.4% of those who completed the survey came to Putney to shop in our retailers, followed by 29.7% of people coming to the area for leisure such as coming to see a movie at Odeon or taking a stroll down the river.

We also heard that almost all of those surveyed would definitely come back to visit Putney, to explore more of our shops and to try out our restaurants or pubs. We found that many of those who were surveyed said there was always “lots going on” and that Putney is a “fun area to live in” that is “vibrant with a good day and night economy”. One of the favourite places that were mentioned included The Toy Shop Bar in Putney High Street, who offer one of a kind cocktails that you can enjoy from their terrace with a view.

The Putney Farmers Market was regularly mentioned. It opened in 2016 to provide the local community with the opportunity to purchase direct from local producers, right on Putney High Street. You can sample organic veg from Cambridgeshire and Kentish fruit that changes with the seasons. There’s also an organic farm butcher on hand for all your BBQ and Sunday roast needs, plus lots of other stalls. As a result, the market has built up a loyal following amongst the local foodies.

Also mentioned was the Putney Arts Theatre, you can find them on the cusp of Ravenna Road and Upper Richmond Road where they hold shows, performances and other fun events for everyone.

It was great to hear about what people thought of Putney and what they loved about it. What is your favourite place to visit in Putney?
