Veronika Wilson is General Manager of Putney Arts Theatre, Putney’s local community theatre, driven by active members that includes local Putney residents, people from the borough of Wandsworth and from further afield throughout London. Veronika is also a BID Board Director for Positively Putney.

Hi Veronika, what is your role at Putney Arts and tell us about the theatre?
I’m the General Manager at Putney Arts Theatre, which is in the converted church along Upper Richmond Road. We are home to both Group 64 Theatre for Young People and Putney Theatre Company, our adult amateur group. We’ve been in the same building in Putney since the late 1960s following a need in the borough for greater opportunities for young people to engage with drama and theatre.

What do you love most about Putney?
I love that each area of Putney has a distinct character and going for walks along the river.

When you are able to be back in the theatre which other business in Putney will you visit first?
I’ll be heading over the road to our neighbours at Artisan for a proper coffee!
And which shops in Putney have you missed visiting during lockdown?
I’ve missed being able to choose gifts in Aigoo and Farrago and browsing books in Waterstones.

Describe Putney in 3 words.
Varied, friendly, enjoyable
How can people continue to support Putney Arts Theatre at the moment?
As a registered charity we have a fundraising campaign on our website www.putneyartstheatre.org.uk. We are also running online performance events where we can, and G64 are running plenty of classes and projects for young people to get involved with online.
