International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day 2022, we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate three of our wonderful women running businesses in Putney. Not only are they inspirational business owners, but they are also three of the kindest people you could meet.

Magda HarrisonArtisan. Alongside her husband Edwin, they set up Artisan on Upper Richmond Road just over a decade ago. Magda is from Australia and wanted to bring the Aussie coffee vibe to England. Putney was the first of a number of very popular coffee shops they run around South West London. Aswell, as the business they have three beautiful children who you will often see in Putney.

Kirsten HazellLondon Grace. Kirsten wanted to change the traditional nail salon experience into a social experience, something she had seen in New York. Have your nails done whilst meeting your friends for coffee or a cocktail. Opening the first on Putney High Street in 2015, they now have ten London Grace salons across London.

Sandra WestBlåbär. Their mission is to encourage people to ‘Live a Life More Nordic.’ Being Swedish, Sandra wanted to bring some of Scandinavia to London. Opening the beautiful cafe in Lacy Road in 2016, serving coffee and tea, and a great selection of freshly baked ‘Fika’ (treats) including the delicious Swedish Cinnamon Buns. The cafe space is an interactive showroom where almost every item including the lighting and furniture is available for purchase, all hand picked products from new Nordic designers.

We have many inspirational business people but today is about celebrating women, and we are lucky that we have many women in Putney that we could have chosen. International Women’s Day is to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. It is also a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

If you have not visited these businesses before, make sure you do next time you are in Putney. You certainly won’t regret it.
