Sustainable Summer in Putney

There’s a lot of exciting sustainability events taking place this June & July. Here at Positively Putney we take sustainability very seriously & look for how we as a business community can help the environment, whether it’s our Trade Waste consolidation with Putney Pedals; our resuable cups for pubs and bars down to the smaller everyday changes in our office such as reducing printing, bringing a reusable coffee cup to work or walking to work!

Whether you’re a business or resident in Putney, why not take a look at the different ways you can get involved & help make our town & the world a more eco place to enjoy! We’ve got links below for resource packs including assets, ways to get involved & how to spread the word for these events.

Don’t forget to send us an email at to let us know what sustainable aims you’ll be making this summer and we will be able to include in our news and socials. Tag us in your own socials too and we will repost and share.

World Refill Day – Wednesday 16th June

World Refill Day is a global public awareness campaign to prevent plastic pollution and help people live with less waste.  Together with our planet-protecting partners, and thousands of everyday activists around the world, we’re calling on businesses, brands and governments to choose to reuse and help make single-use plastic a thing of the past.

As a global movement, we have the power to create a wave of change. By choosing to reuse, we’re saving millions of pieces of plastic and sending a message to the rest of the world that the solutions to plastic pollution and the climate crisis are there – and together we can keep our environment, oceans, cities and communities plastic-free for the future.

Clean Air Day – Thursday June 17th

Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health in the UK, with between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths a year attributed to long-term exposure. There is strong evidence that air pollution causes the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, respiratory disease and lung cancer, and exacerbates asthma (Public Health England, 2019).

Your business can help to reduce local air pollution. Head over to the Clean Air Day website where you can download resources specifically for businesses. Amongst the resources are:

  • A template message your CEO can share on the importance of Clean Air Day
  • An air pollution business mapping sheet
  • Draft texts to driving fleets
  • Clean air travel choices at work
  • Posters and social media infographics, which can be shared by human resources to entice employees to take action on the day

Join in with the Clean Air Day business-orientated webinar ‘Businesses’ new responsibility: respecting a child’s right to a clean & healthy environment’ at 4pm on 17th June. Click here to reserve your place

Sign up for Business for Clean Air – an initiative developed and overseen by Global Action Plan to get businesses to declare a commitment to understanding and addressing their impact on air quality.

Plastic Free July – whole month

Plastic Free July is exactly what it sounds like, a movement to try and encourage people to use less or no plastic in the month of July. It’s a really good way for people to get involved and think about what they’re buying and to hopefully make some permanent changes to reduce the amount of plastic in their day to day lives. There’s lots of things businesses can do to get involved, both on the shop floor & in offices & staff rooms.
