Where will you watch the boat race?

As Putney Embankment is the start of the Boat Race, it is a great place to soak up the atmosphere on University Boat Race day. This year being held on Saturday 30th March, with the Women’s race at 2:46pm followed by the Men’s race at 3:46pm

If you are arrive by Putney train station, you will be walking past some great restaurants and food outlets as you head to the River – Wagamamas, Bosa Lounge, Casa Manola, Franco Manca, Sushi Co, Kokoro, Preto, Five Guys, Soul Flame, Zip Babb, KFC, Putney Pantry – to name but a few. Make sure you come hungry to Putney and grab a bite to eat!

If you are looking for a riverside view then there are plenty of places to choose from, some you can see the start and others you will see the rowers warming up and heading to the start. All will have a great atmosphere.

The Duke’s Head

The Duke’s Head is a historic pub that has been serving drinks since 1770. It’s located on the riverbank, right by the start of the race. and offers excellent views of the Thames River. During the boat race, the pub is packed with people who come to watch the boats race by. The Duke’s Head has a large outdoor seating area, which is perfect for watching the race and enjoying a pint.

Thai Square

Thai Square: With panoramic views over the river Thames, Thai Square Putney Bridge has one of the top five best restaurant views in London. Its outdoor seating and patio make it one of the best spots for Boat Race day and often hosts weddings and parties. It has a Boat race menu which includes a welcome drink. Book here.

The Boathouse

The Boathouse: The Boathouse is a charming pub that’s located on the opposite side of the Thames from Putney. It offers stunning views of the river and is a popular spot to watch the boat race. The pub has a large outdoor seating area, which fills up quickly during the event. The Boathouse serves delicious food and drinks, making it a great place to spend the day watching the boats race by.

Coppa Club

Coppa Club: The Coppa Club is a laid back restaurant and bar and is right on the riverfront with uninterrupted views of the river. It has outdoor space with private igloos. It’s open all day and would be a great place to enjoy a glass of wine and a bite to eat whilst enjoying the boat race. Make sure you book your spot!

The Rocket

The Rocket: The Rocket pub is a vibrant pub situated on the Putney Wharf. It has an extensive outside seating area on the riverside terrace. A great place to kick back and enjoy the boat race.

Urban Food Fest

We have bought in Urban Food Fest for Boat Race Day. 11am-7:30pm. There will be an array of street food vendors, artisan bars, art & crafts and more available on the day.

Reusable Cups

All hospitality businesses within Putney will be using reusable cups, rather than serving in single use plastics. This saves an estimated 15,000 cups from landfill in just one day. Putney businesses have been supporting this initiative since 2019 Boat Race.

Don’t get caught short – if you need the toilet, you can find porta loos by the cinema and on the Embankment.

Putney is an excellent place to watch the boat race, it is a friendly atmosphere and welcoming for children and adults. We will be there – will you?
