A vibrant and empowering photography exhibition will pop-up in Southwest London this October, showcasing portraits of inspirational women who have lived through male-to-female abuse. The Female Five Million inaugural London exhibition will be open to the public between 7th – 18th October at BobCat Gallery at Putney Exchange Shopping Centre.
Portraits on show aim to highlight the resilience, confidence and energy of these women, all of whom have experienced a form of male-to-female abuse in their past, and gives women and those from marginalised genders the chance to share their experiences and express themselves in a safe space.
Photographer and Female Five Million Founder, Wendy Gannon, says: “Millions of women and children are abused in this country every year. We exist to raise awareness, break the silence, build community and drive real-world change. The movement is committed to reaching five million women and girls – not just as a number, but as a measurable shift in awareness and action.
This exhibition will showcase a powerful series of photos featuring women who have been through abuse in many forms. We want to give women a platform to take back their agency, a space to heal, and a way to begin life-changing conversations about their experiences that raise awareness with others.
This won’t be a sombre exhibition – I want to make sure these women and others know that they can take up space, be joyful again, and support each other to make their voices heard while we build something better for tomorrow.”
As part of the London Borough of Culture year in Wandsworth, Female Five Million will offer local people the chance to participate in free, confidence-boosting photography sessions throughout the exhibition, as well as running creative workshops to share their lived experience.
The exhibition will also offer a backdrop for educational workshops with local young people, helping them understand how abuse can manifest, how it can be prevented, and where to find support.
