Following the success of the two electrical boxes painted in Putney in 2024, Positively Putney BID is inviting local artists to help brighten the town centre by creating designs to transform everyday electrical boxes into colourful works of art. The project aims to turn plain street infrastructure into vibrant canvases that celebrate Putney’s unique character, creating a more welcoming environment for residents, visitors and businesses alike.
Artists of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to submit their ideas, with designs inspired by Putney’s rich history, riverside location, green spaces, architecture, wildlife and diverse community. Winning designs will be professionally painted onto the selected electrical boxes by experienced mural artists, bringing each concept to life for everyone to enjoy.
The initiative forms part of Positively Putney’s ongoing commitment to making Putney a cleaner, greener and more attractive destination. Public art has become an increasingly popular way for towns and cities to improve their streetscapes, helping to create a stronger sense of place while celebrating local creativity.
“We are excited to give local artists the chance to leave a lasting mark on Putney,” said Nicola Grant, Executive Director of Positively Putney BID. “These electrical boxes are often overlooked, but with a little creativity they can become eye-catching landmarks that make people smile, spark conversation and showcase the incredible talent within our community.”
The finished artworks will form a trail through the town centre, encouraging people to explore Putney while supporting local businesses along the way.
Positively Putney is now inviting expressions of interest from artists. Whether you’re an established mural artist, illustrator, student or enthusiastic amateur, this is an opportunity to contribute to a lasting public art project that will be enjoyed by thousands of people every day. We want to get this project completed before the Autumn so are asking for designs to be returned by the 15th August. They can be handed into the front desk in Putney library on Disraeli Road or scanned and emailed to Nicolagrant@positivelyputney.co.uk
