Have you ever noticed the flowers brightening up Putney’s streets, the hanging planters adding colour to the High Street or the pavements looking freshly washed?
You may be surprised to learn that much of this work is not carried out by the Council. It is funded and delivered by Positively Putney BID, using the levy contributions made by local businesses.
Our businesses care deeply about Putney. They want it to be an attractive, welcoming and enjoyable place to work, shop, eat, visit and spend time. That is why, every year, we invest part of the BID levy into projects that enhance the streetscape and improve the experience of being in Putney.
Adding colour and greenery to Putney
One of the most visible ways we enhance Putney is through planting.
Our gardeners look after 40 hanging column-wrap planters and 10 three-tier planters, bringing colour and greenery into the town centre throughout the year.
We also add planting in other prominent locations, including along the Lindner Building, in front of Oxford House on Upper Richmond Road and in the planters outside Putney Mead Clinic.
These may seem like small touches, but together they make a significant difference to the appearance and atmosphere of our streets.
Our planting is designed to make Putney feel cared for, creating a more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works and visits here.
Keeping Putney clean
Putney is a busy town centre. Thousands of people use our pavements every day, and with that comes a lot of wear and tear.
That is why we don’t simply plant and walk away. We actively invest in keeping the High Street looking its best.
Positively Putney BID arranges for the High Street pavements to be pressure washed three days every month. Regular cleaning helps us stay on top of the dirt and marks that build up quickly in such a high-traffic area.
It is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off clean, because keeping Putney looking good requires regular attention
Why do we do it?
Because our levy-paying businesses have a stake in Putney. The businesses that contribute to the BID want their customers to enjoy coming into the town. They want Putney to feel vibrant, welcoming and well cared for.
The BID gives local businesses the opportunity to collectively invest in improvements that benefit the wider town centre.
