Promoting Putney
Marketing
Place Marketing
We raise the profile of Putney as a quality destination for consumers, residents, businesses and visitors. The BID actively promotes Putney to generate interest and excitement and positive media attention to attract more visitors, businesses and shoppers to our vibrant town.
We co-ordinate a range of seasonal campaigns to showcase the businesses, both independents and nationals that we have in Putney. We use our established digital platforms via our website and social media, our monthly consumer e-newsletter aswell as printed media.
We also offer a range of services to help our businesses with their marketing to drive footfall into Putney. As a business you have a unique ability to influence those that use your services and inspire them to use you and your neighbouring businesses more frequently. We encourage you to always be positive about visiting, shopping and using Putney facilities. Our voice to consumers is stronger together.
Previous campaigns include Eat Local, Shop Local, Enjoy Local, Taste of Putney, Mr Benn, People of Putney, Small Business Saturday.

Website
As a focal point for information on Putney we maintain and update the Positively Putney BID website which has both a consumer side and business side. The consumer side includes a business directory of all BID businesses. Please check your business listing to make sure it shows the most up to date photos and content. The website also has an events calendar where you can upload your events to so that we can then share them for you. Also, the regular news articles are very popular and we can spotlight your business.
Google analytics show we currently have 36,000 users a year, and between 600 and 2000 users per week.
Social Media
We are active across Instagram, Facebook, X, Tiktok and LinkedIn to encourage people to engage with the Positively Putney brand. We have over 10,000 followers and we post regularly on all platforms. We produce our own content and can also share your business content. Always make sure you tag us in your posts so that we can see them. We know that businesses can help each other with building a customer base. To join our conversation always use #shareourPutney on your posts so that people interested in Putney can find what you have to say.
Putney Map
We have produced a Putney map & guide which is available to pick up at Putney train station, at Putney library, Putney hotel and in Putney Exchange, aswell as in some business premises. If you would like to have copies of the map then please email Fleur on marketing@positivelyputney.co.uk.
Christmas Brochure
Maximising Christmas trade is so important for our businesses. Each year we produce and deliver 30,000 Christmas brochures to local households reminding them why they should visit Putney town centre for all their Christmas needs. The distribution area covers all of Putney, into Wandsworth, Fulham and Barnes.
The brochure celebrates all of Putney’s businesses but there is also an option to pay for an advert. These are finalised by the end of September to enable the brochure to be delivered during November.
Christmas campaign
Good Christmas trade is crucial for most businesses. Each year we have a focused marketing campaign to encourage people into Putney town centre to spend their time and money. This involves promoting in local and national media aswell as organising various activities across the Christmas period. In 2023 we will have the ice sculpture trail aswell as Luna Loves Christmas window displays.
Photographs of the ice sculptures and Christmas switch on stage from 2023, ice rink and runaway tree from 2022, Nutcracker and Putney brass band from 2021 and Christmas stilt walker and Elmer from 2020.
Time & Leisure Magazine
We have partnered with Time & Leisure magazine so they will offer businesses a 25% discount on their normal advertising rates. Contact Mike Reed on mike.reed@timeandleisure.co.uk.
We sponsor a Putney award at the annual Time & Leisure Food and Culture awards. This proves to be a great way to raise the profile of our businesses to locals and to further afield across South West London.
London Press
We send out regular press releases and will advertise Putney as a great place to visit in local and London press. We regularly promote in Wandsworth Council’s Brightside magazine, Primary Times, and Time & Leisure. In 2023 we advertised in Time Out and Living In magazine and in 2022 we had an editorial in the Evening Standard Christmas special.
We have been asked to talk on BBC Radio London, BBC Radio 4 and Riverside Radio on either specific projects or because they want a Putney take on a topic. Our reuseable cups also saw us on BBC London News, ITV news, Sky news and This is London.
Events
2023 BID events
We encourage people into town with a varied events programme. In 2023 we co-ordinated the boat race party in March, the Coronation celebration in May, the outdoor cinema screening in July, and the summer series in the square in August. We had the Halloween Trick or Treat trail in October, our popular Christmas light switch on in November and the Putney Ice sculpture trail. These event days give people a new reason to visit Putney and remind them what a great place it is. They hopefully enjoy their day, discover new businesses and return again.
We also host a stand at Roehampton University Freshers Fair in September. Many of the students are new to the area and we promote Putney as their closest town centre for all their needs in both the daytime and the nightime.
