Your guide to defibrillators in Putney. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy shock to the heart of someone who is having a cardiac arrest. Defibrillators are increasingly available in local communities, workplaces and schools. Every year, approximately 55 out of 100,000 people experience an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (Resuscitation council UK). The Defibrillators available in the public domain are Automated External Defibrillators (AED), they are portable devices that work by automatically checking the casualty’s heard rhythm once the pads are placed on their chest, giving them a shock if needed.
