From the River to the High Street, rowing to shopping, Putney has so many things to do. It’s a beautiful space where the life and bustle of London meets quiet and comfortable in a lovely hybrid.

For any fellow matcha lovers, Putney has tons of cafes that serve it, though if you want a recommendation, I’d send you right to Miyagi, hidden on Chelverton Road close to the bus garage. Their matcha is incredibly high-quality and well made, and it costs the same as a coffee from another popular chain. If that’s not enough to convince you to visit, you’d also be supporting a local business, and helping other people in the area. Along with Miyagi, we have Blank Street, Black Sheep, several Costas, and more.
When it comes to hanging out with friends, or even just going on a walk and listening to music, Putney’s right next to the River Thames, with several parks and pop-up stalls on weekends, along the Embankment path. There are benches all along the river, perfect for sitting and chatting with friends. From Leaders gardens, with tennis courts, a playground, and Loo Loos (who does not have a loo), and Putney common, there’s lots of green space to chill, chat, maybe even frolic in. Perhaps you would like to follow the many pathways and see where you end up.

With the Putney Exchange and plethora of shops along the high street, shopping is also an option. From big brands like H&M and Sports Direct, to smaller more local places, it’s not hard to find something of interest. Some brands also offer discounts, which can be useful for any students trying to save money, such as Ryman offering 10% off for students, Creams offering a free ice-cream when you download their app, Mooboo with a loyalty account, or H&M offering 10% off for members. If none of the shops on Putney High Street have something you like, there’s even more options on Upper Richmond Road.
Putney’s full of pathways, so many that you could spend almost an entire day wandering and chatting with friends. If you ever do, there’s a bunch of places to get food during your meandering. From cheaper options like KFC, McDonalds, Burger King, and Itsu, to higher end places like Roxie’s Steak. You could share a pizza at Franco Manca or Base Face, or get something at Giuliano Deli Cafe. Maybe even get yourself a sweet treat at Creams. If none of that’s interesting maybe get some Greggs or Nandos. The point is, you won’t be short of options in Putney.

Though, for the more introverted people, Putney Library is an option. For reading, chatting (quietly), or studying for the next big set of exams, Putney library’s a public and open space for anyone – as long as you’re quiet. With many places to sit, large windows, and books on almost every genre, there’s something everyone can do.
I lived in Putney for three years and I’m still not bored of exploring the area.
