University Student Guide to Putney

Depending on where you study, living in Putney during holidays can be a contrast to university life. This difference, however, doesn’t have to be a bad one! Putney in the summer can be a peaceful place to take a break from the fast-paced environment of university while still providing many activities for students to enjoy. Read ahead for a university student guide to Putney.

Places to study

Term might have ended but that doesn’t mean all work has. In preparation for next year, why not bring your laptop to Arise Coffee Roasters and grab yourself a coffee for a chilled-out study session? If you need somewhere quieter to focus, try Putney Library.

If you’re low on stationery supplies, you can head to Wilko or Ryman to top yourself up before term starts in September

Places to go out

For a pub with a bit of atmosphere, East Putney Tavern on Upper Richmond Road could be your pick. While it is nice for a quiet catch-up with friends in the afternoon, it becomes very lively in the evenings. If you’re looking for somewhere with more of a student clientele, Fox and Hounds is a sports bar that attracts many young people with its high energy on Friday and Saturday evenings.

On a budget? The Rocket, a JD Wetherspoons pub, allows you to enjoy a drink for less. Or, for an earlier drink, Simmons’ happy hour prices (running 4pm-9pm Sunday-Friday) are worth taking advantage of.

Activities

On the off chance you haven’t already engaged in the Barbie vs Oppenheimer frenzy, it is not too late to book yourself a viewing at Odeon Luxe. If you’ve already seen these films, there are plenty more on offer.

If you, like many students, have a sense of style that doesn’t always match your budget, charity shopping could be a great activity for you. Save money, save the environment and donate to a good cause while shopping at the British Heart Foundation, Oxfam and Cancer Research UK on Putney High Street. For a charity shop more likely to stock high-end brands, visit Trinity Hospice and Cancer Research UK on Putney High Street.
